    Hi,

I plan to start my practice next year as a part-time ‘business’ maybe first on donation basis and let ‘payments’ do via Paypal (friends and family because there’s no deductions then).

Does anyone else here do this? What are your experiences? Is it without problems via PP? Do clients donate after the session? (I just plan it for the start and later charge normally and also seek other payment options then probably).

    Thanks for your input.

    Hi Volker

This approach has been used by some over the years with various results. I have not personally gone in this direction but here are a couple of my recollections of things discussed that may be helpful:

Donations are okay, but work best with “suggested” donations. Sometimes this suggested amount, is exceeded by very happy clients.

There are people out there who will absolutely see this as an opportunity to get something for nothing. They may be few and far between, but they do exist. You need to at least be very aware of that energy being brought into a session, as it can absolutely affect the session itself.

One thing nice about donation based practitioners is that we get a fair number of people looking for sessions who contact us and say they are unable to pay the fees for a session and ask for advice. Some of these people may pay nominally or over time.

I think your idea of later creating a price point for later is reasonable, and if that is your plan I would communicate that very clearly so there are no complaints later on about you changing your fee structure.

    Good luck.

    Hi Volker,

I agree with Candace on all she mentioned and would like to add another option for you to consider. I would make a clear price point you would like to charge and declare a discount for a short period of time, like 2 months that people will get a discounted rate, and having a clear date in which that discount will expire.

Keep is short and with a clear end date.

In my experience of doing this work for over 20 years, the less people pay the less they value what they have experience and the less invested they are in the session and its results. and it draws people who are not fully invested in it. I know that it is counterintuitive, you would think they would be grateful, and some are, but overall it draws the wrong crowd.

Another important point to make is your own self-worth and value. Just because you are new, does not mean you are not good at it. We all need to have 5-10 sessions of experience to start feeling more confident in our skill, but still, you have a skill that most people do not and they value it. This is your growing set of expertise, and I like to tell my students; “Don’t charge less than a plumber”, and  plumber will charge you about $100 just for showing up.

Last point, If you have internal challenges or blocks with your own value or value of your session, meditate on it or do an exchange with another practitioner to resolve them and allow abundance to flow to you.

Be well and enjoy the process.

In the very beginning, I did donation for fees because I felt like I was still getting comfortable with doing the sessions. When people went to pay, they felt very lost on what the value was. I believe because they didn’t know what most people pay for a session so they didn’t have a price point to compare it to.
I would have suggestions for the fees like Candace said to help guide your clients.

I work with recommended fees and use Stripe which allows clients to pay whatever they want. When I tried to set up the PayPal by donation, a while back, i encountered difficulties with this. They also say that this feature is only for nonprofits. I don’t know if this is still the case.

    Blessings

In my experience, I will say keep your Paypal information private and only share it with your clients. Having it public leaves your open to all sorts of spam and scammers.

I’d add that in some countries (Germany f. e.) you should be careful with “suggested donation”. In case of legal problems it could be read as cheating regarding taxes.

I’d do it as Harry suggests or you really trust and see who is coming for donation for a limited time and only once per person. I had as a shiatsu practicioner nice clients. Only one tried to take advantage.

A higher self once told me not to do free sessions because it creates an energy imbalance and may create karma (money is energy). You can do sliding scale, i.e., put a range.

To me, The payment amount is related to the energy the client put into the session (results the client want) i noticed as a client when i paid, what is a “big amount” for me, i have very good results like very usefull downloads to elevate creating noticable changes in my life and healing a lot ect. Also the energy starting moving and working when i paid for it not before because it show my engagement and i send the message into the universe “yes i want changes now, im ready”

i use to not have any money to get myself a practitioner who could help me and every practitioner i met they asked more than what i had in my pocket, so i looked for advice all around and i did the job myself but it took so much time and efforts, and finally today i realize i didn’t have that money to have a session because it was a reflection of my inside i was hanged, blocked on something and i had to unlock my inside situation and no one could do it for me but me. Sometimes people need to make it by themselves (for ex i had to make it by myself to learn to not play the victim and taking my responsabilities, and there is many others reasons like this, why some people can’t afford a session) sometime people really need help and usualy they will find a practitioner who will make space to help. it depend of the situation, it’s our work to recognize and manage it.

in the point of view of the practitioner, maybe it depends of the beliefs of each individual, but most people see a payment as an engagement/real choice, in their subconscious. That why the energy starting working when we send the payment and fix a date for the session.
