  • Is this a scam?

Stephanie Shek Posted by Stephanie Shek on 2018-08-17 at 1:45 PM

Hello all, this looks like scam to me but I want to make sure. I received a similar email last year but there was no follow up email after I replied to the initial one.

Notice: Regarding the Domain name dispute and registration case, we did not receive any of your reply until now. Concerning the mentioned Domains names and Brand Name please confirm whether you need to register those names by yourselves? If need, please let us know in time, we can send an Domain Name Application Registration Contract to you. If you think the registration of that company or the use of following domain names will not bring any negative effect to your company, I suggest you can give up these domain names, then we will accept that company application unconditionally. Further questions please contact me in time.

    Hello David,

I don’t know what you are talking about. What dispute? What registration? You emailed a while ago to ask me if I knew your clients or their brand. I said no. I am not involved in whatsoever you are doing with your clients. Don’t you think you could have written in a nicer manner? I do not know you at all and I’m using my own time answering your emails which I am not interested in. Is this some sort of scam to get me to have your service in any way? If so, at least learn to talk nicer.

No wish no regards for you.

Yes. Not written properly either which indicates that it’s phishing.

    Stephanie,
I believe this is either a scam or someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing.
If someone wants to buy the domain name thelovingenergy.org, thelovingenergy.cn or whatever, they don’t need your permission and they wouldn’t even notify you. If they want the domain you already own (which is not the case here), they would just offer to buy it from you.
If they’re registering a brand name, they would search the trademark database of their country for “thelovingenergy” to see if anyone else has already registered it as a brand name. I understand that usually a brand name has to be registered separately in each country, so as long as that brand name is available in China or wherever they’re doing business, again – they have no reason to notify you.
So I don’t think this is legit.
Where is my company name being used? https://namechk.com/
Who owns a particular domain? http://whois.domaintools.com/
