My first holistic healing fair

After 6 years doing hypnosis work, I did my first local fair last weekend, and I want to share what I learned. I used to do craft and artisan shows where I sold jewellery (or jewelry, as you spell it in the US) of my own making, as well as crystals and healing stones. That was 30 years ago, but it helped me prepare – and compare. This is a fairly rural area with a few small towns of 2000 – 10,000 people, an hour away from the nearest city (Halifax), so such events happen at a smaller scale than in large cities.
Many of the exhibitors at this 2-day fair were selling merchandise or doing readings. I was not, which made it more relaxing for me. But I did have to figure out how to describe what I do in a few words.
Here’s my table (I hope the photo will enlarge if you click it):

I had:
– A banner, with my logo and business name (Heather Holm Quantum Healing Hypnosis) and a QR code that goes to my website. I didn’t see anyone aim their phone at the QR code. But lots of people took my matching business cards, which I put on the table in a couple of places. I had both the banner and the business cards printed at Vistaprint. It’s a small banner, which I hung from a camera tripod rather than pay $100 for a custom stand. The background graphics are the same as on my website.
– A Powerpoint slideshow playing on an extra monitor, attached to my laptop which I kept safely under the table. I worked a lot on that Powerpoint, which had 13 slides and lots of animations, no sound, and looped automatically. Four of the slides had 2 or 3 testimonials each. No one stood to watch the whole thing. It’s not wasted as I will make a video of it and post it on my website and in the directory, perhaps after adjusting the timings and/or narrating it or adding background music. It did draw people’s attention to the booth. Next time I’ll make a much shorter one with fewer words.
– A few of Dolores’ books and one by Brian Weiss, for display only (there was also a bookseller present with some of her books in stock). That worked really well. Many people know Dolores’ books or have seen her videos, so it was often a good way to get the conversation started.
– I’ve arranged to do a group regression at a local yoga studio in 3 weeks, and I had a little handout for that, which many people took. I did a few group regressions before covid but hadn’t started up again, so it’s going to be a nice event.
– I also had a sign-up sheet for my email list.
– I brought some props, most notably a crystal singing bowl (one of 8 that I inherited from my sister and use during inductions and sometimes during the healing part of a session), a selenite lamp, selenite and shungite stones and a rose quartz that I sometimes use in sessions. Each day, before the doors opened, the fair started with drumming and prayer (which set a lovely intention and tone), and I played the singing bowl for that.
– The people who attend this fair have at least some interest in spirituality and alternatives. I found that very few people had heard of QHHT or BQH, but they do know “past life regression”. A few know “shamanic journeying”. So my “elevator speech” evolved to say that what I do takes past life regression further into a conversation with the higher self, getting answers and healing. I emphasized the time and intention that goes into a session, the long interview, a couple hours on the bed – and they were impressed by that, realizing it was a serious thing.
– People were also very pleased that I’m local.
– There was good networking with the few local spiritual-ish shops and other practitioners of various types who were exhibitors or visitors.
– There was little small talk at this fair; conversations went deep, quickly. And there was no Xmas muzak playing constantly in the background. So overall it was a pleasant experience, compared to a craft show.
