Posts that 'Need Approval'
Hi everyone,
This issue has cropped up again, like it has several times over the past few years, so I just want everyone to know what’s going on.
Our Forum is hosted on a platform operated by Vanilla. One of the risks of forums like this is the potential for spammers to invade “our” space, so Vanilla is very diligent about keeping those people away from us. In order to do so, they are constantly tweaking their spam algorithm to try to stay ahead. The unfortunate byproduct of this effort is that sometimes, legitimate posts get sidetracked into a spam queue for review before getting posted.
If you get a message that says your post “Needs Approval” that is what the problem is. Your post might trip the spam alarm because of a link you embedded, a combination of words you used, trying to post too many messages within a few minute time frame, a video…could be anything. We have no way of knowing what trips the alarm because if the algorithm got out, the spammers would just figure out a way around it.
I try to check the spam queue daily, and sometimes go months without a single post getting stuck there, and then all of a sudden we can have dozens in a single day. If you are getting this “Needs Approval” message …please send me a quick private message on the Forum, or email at [email protected] and I’ll clear your post as soon as I can get in front of a computer. Please do not try to “re-post” before I can clear the queue, otherwise we end up with duplicate posts.
Also, and again just so everyone knows, we do have a “Moderation” setting for practitioners who choose not to be kind, respectful, etc. Those posts also must be reviewed by a moderator before they appear on the Forum. In our 7 year history with over 1,500 practitioners having participated on this Forum, we’ve only had 3 occasions to put someone in this status and those people are long gone. There are no practitioners today in this status, and there hasn’t been for several years. If you are getting a “Needs Approval” message it’s because of the spam algorithm.
Sorry for any inconvenience but I am grateful the “spammers” haven’t gotten through yet. 🙂
Love,
Candace
