I have two volunteers offering to transcribe sessions for me. I’m thinking I probably need some sort of form for them to complete to keep the information confidential and that the recording and the transcription are the property of me and the client.
Thoughts? Anyone have any experience with this?

You may be able to find a transcribing app that will do it for you… that is the first thought that comes up.

It would not take much for you to craft a little waiver to have both of them to sign, since it’s helpful to have volunteers! (Transcription services run $1/ audio minute). But you don’t have to do more than have a confidentiality agreement they both sign and I don’t believe it even has to be notarized or anything to make it binding.
In my non-QHHT & hypno work life, I am an editor/ writer and I can give you a sample blurb from one of my contracts if you like.

It is possible to use YouTube’s closed captioning system to create an automatic transcription which can be edited on the spot (absolutely necessary, as many errors still get in) then downloaded. I hadn’t looked into this for a few years, and I just tried it on a how-to video of mine (on another subject) and was pleasantly surprised.

You’d have to upload your video on YouTube, making it either “Private” (someone has to log in to see it) or “Unlisted” (only someone with the link can view). You could delete it after, I suppose, if it isn’t going to be public.

If the client isn’t speaking loudly and clearly, however, results won’t be as good as I got in my how-to video.

Below is a 6-year-old video I found with instructions for how to do it. The YouTube interface has changed a bit, but the pieces are still there.

After editing the automatic transcription on screen, I downloaded the file. The extension is .sbv. I opened it in a plain text editor (Notepad) and I opened it in Excel, and it works, but if I wanted it in Word, I’d open in Notepad first and then copy-paste, otherwise I get messy tables. I’d still have to do some formatting there – erase the timestamps, etc.

All the apps I’ve found are only aids to typing it out yourself. Though I think Dragon NaturallySpeaking can be configured to run off a recording. It’s pricey software, though.

Julia, thank you for this advice. I would welcome a blurb. Would that be in a PM or what? I barely know enough about the forum to post and comment. My email address is [email protected].

Heather, that is a great idea. However, I’m don’t have the capability to record video or edit it at this point. :-/

Christi, I use my smartphone to video my sessions. If you don’t have a tripod, a selfie stick can be taped to a chair or something. And sections can be trimmed out right on YouTube’s own editor after uploading . Other editing features are there too. And there is Windows Movie Maker which is free and adequate, and if on a Mac, iMovie is even better.

Hi Christi! My thoughts are … where do you find volunteers to transcribe sessions? HA!

Hi Christi! My thoughts are … where do you find volunteers to transcribe sessions? HA!

One just volunteered after his session! I mentioned that I was trying to find an easy way to make transcripts, and he said he’d love to! I shared the good news on my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/angelsguidance11/) that there would soon be excerpts posted, and someone else volunteered! The Universe provides. 🙂
