What is needed for online sessions?

Hello everyone,
I just completed course and will be having an online session soon. Was wondering, aside from my mic headphone would a client need headset? Other than both having laptops, is there anything else needed?
Thank you in advance,
Cristal

I have found that a good head set for you with noise cancelling microphone makes a huge difference (I didn’t know they were a thing!). I always ask clients to please prepare their computer, make sure they have Zoom installed (or whatever you use), a headset that is wired to the computer, and the computer plugged. I have had clients insist it is ok to call in from a phone (it always dies), or use airpods (horrible idea, they always die), or no headphone at all (it works during the interview, then under hypnosis they whisper or look the other way and the computer doesn’t capture the sound and you can’t bring them up to have them fix it).
It may sound annoying to request so many details, but it truly does make a huge difference – it is a big investment for them and you want to make sure they have the best experience possible.
all the best with your upcoming session!

For the headset I ask them to have one with a piece that holds the mic in front of or just to the side of the mouth. Not the type with the mic in the wire, which lays on the chest when the client lies down. If the client is lying down flat, the microphone ends up on the chest under the chin, and the voice can sound very muffled and difficult to make out when they are speaking softly under hypnosis.
I find that the background noise cancellation isn’t as important since Zoom has this feature included.

I dislike earpods and always have clients remove them.
No matter what the headset or mic used…Have the client do the whisper test for sure. If they “fail” meaning you cannot hear their whisper or the mic doesn’t pick it up, tell them, if they get THAT quiet, you will just have to ask them to speak with a bit more volume. I have found that sort of “pre programs” clients to not get too quiet. Straining to hear is just about the hardest thing to deal with!
Make sure their laptop is plugged in.
Note the time of day and lighting. Some sessions go past dark and if you don’t pay attention, your client may lose all light around them if they do not have a lamp on. 🙂
I always ask who is in the house with them, if anyone.
I always ask about pets. Sometimes just letting them BE IN THE ROOM is less disruptive than making them stay out, and often their energy is part of the healing anyway.
Best wishes!
