Why doesn't the Directory display my email address?!
Why, you may ask?
Because spammers are aplenty and ‘bots’ exist for the sole purpose of scraping your email address from websites like ours.
Having a client make initial contact through our Directory system is meant to protect everyone’s privacy and spare you from personally dealing with spammers.
Here is an example of spam message that was sent to our Directory interface (and not directly to an email account):
Pure scammer spam.
We don’t want these spammer scammers to get your personal email, and this message system lets us block malicious IP addresses from the Directory. That’s why the initial contact has to be made through the Directory’s system. It gives us an opportunity to remove obvious spammer accounts before they send messages to everyone.
Once a spammer messages someone, we see the spam, and block that IP address from ever emailing anyone else.
So, even though you may see a notification from us saying you have a message (like the account above) that looks like spam, that spammer did not get your email address and we will have blocked that IP address from trying again.
You may also ask yourself: Won’t I have to login all the time just to check for messages?!? How annoying!
Nope! This Directory is set up to send you an email every time you have a pending message or recommendation waiting for your approval.
To make sure our messages don’t go to your junk folder, add this email address to your contacts: [email protected]
If your email account has already flagged any of our messages as spam, it would be helpful to unflag them, that way your mailbox starts to learn that you want to see these messages.
As always, if you have any questions, please message me @Directory_Admin;or send an email to [email protected] and I’ll be happy to help you out!
Lauren
