Modality: Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and supports the body’s natural healing abilities. It is based on the principle that life force energy, also known as “ki” or “prana,” flows through all living things, and that imbalances in this energy can lead to illness or discomfort.
A Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit, channeling this life force energy to the client through gentle hand placements on or near the body. They facilitate the flow of energy to support the client’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
What to expect from a session with a Reiki practitioner:
- Initial consultation: The practitioner will begin by discussing your health history, current concerns, and goals for the Reiki session. They may ask about any physical pain, emotional stress, or specific issues you’d like to address.
- Comfortable setting: You will typically lie down fully clothed on a massage table in a quiet and relaxing room. The atmosphere is often peaceful, with soft music or dimmed lighting.
- Relaxation and preparation: The practitioner may guide you in some deep breathing or relaxation exercises to help you settle into the session.
- Hand placements: The practitioner will place their hands gently on or just above your body in a series of positions. These positions correspond to various energy centers (chakras) and areas of the body.
- Energy flow: You may experience various sensations during the session, such as warmth, tingling, a sense of pulsing, or a feeling of energy moving through your body. Some people report feeling deeply relaxed or even falling asleep.
- Quiet and stillness: The session is usually a quiet and still experience, allowing you to relax and receive the energy.
- Session duration: A typical Reiki session lasts for 45 minutes to an hour, but this can vary.
- Post-session discussion: After the session, the practitioner may discuss your experience and offer guidance for self-care, such as drinking plenty of water or getting some rest.
Additional things to keep in mind:
- Gentle and non-invasive: Reiki is a gentle and non-invasive therapy. The touch is usually light and respectful.
- Focus on energy: Reiki works with the body’s energy field, not physical manipulation.
- Relaxation response: Reiki often induces a deep relaxation response, which can be beneficial for stress reduction and overall well-being.
- Complementary therapy: Reiki is considered a complementary therapy and is not a substitute for conventional medical treatment.
- Finding a qualified practitioner: Look for a practitioner who has received training and certification in Reiki from a recognized Reiki lineage or teacher.
