Negotiating with the Higher Self: Healing, and the Art of Asking Better Questions

Among practitioners of regression hypnosis and spiritual healing, there is a recurring theme: true healing often begins not with answers, but with better questions.

In the community forum, a fascinating discussion among students of Dolores Cannon’s hypnosis method and Beyond Quantum Healing created by Candace Craw-Goldman, explored what happens when a practitioner engages with the “Subconscious” a deeper aspect of awareness believed to possess wisdom beyond the conscious mind. While the language used in these conversations is spiritual, the underlying principles offer insight into healing, self-discovery, and personal transformation.

One of the key ideas are that symptoms are often messengers rather than the enemy.

If a client presents with migraines, anxiety, chronic tension, or emotional distress, the goal is not simply to eliminate the symptom. Instead, the practitioner is encouraged to explore:

* What purpose is this condition serving?
* What emotions accompany it?
* What beliefs support it?
* What changes might the individual need to make?

This approach shifts the focus from fighting symptoms to understanding them. Whether viewed spiritually or psychologically, many healing traditions suggest that unresolved emotions, limiting beliefs, or unprocessed experiences can manifest as physical or emotional discomfort.

Engaging with the SC should not resemble an interrogation. Rather than asking a rapid succession of yes-or-no questions, the practitioner develops a dialogue.

The SC is approached as an intelligent and trusted ally.

Releasing Contracts and Attachments

Another recurring theme is the idea of spiritual contracts.

Some practitioners describe contracts as agreements, patterns, or energetic commitments that may no longer serve a person’s highest good. During sessions, clients sometimes visualize contracts being torn up or dissolved.

Similarly, discussions of energetic hooks, cords, or attachments often arise. These are seen as lingering emotional connections, unresolved relationships, or burdens carried from the past.

Again, even when stripped of spiritual terminology, the symbolism remains powerful. Many people spend years unconsciously carrying old roles, loyalties, fears, or obligations that continue to shape their lives. The act of releasing them can be profoundly meaningful.

Then there is cellular healing: the belief that emotional experiences can become stored within the body.

Modern psychology has increasingly explored how trauma affects the nervous system and bodily responses. While the idea of “cellular memory” remains controversial in scientific terms, many therapeutic approaches recognize that emotional experiences are often expressed physically through tension, posture, stress responses, and chronic discomfort.

Within these hypnosis sessions, practitioners may ask for old memories to be released, healed, or transformed, allowing the body to let go of patterns that no longer serve it.

Facilitators should not attempt to force outcomes, prove their abilities, or impose interpretations. Instead, they are encouraged to remain curious, grounded, and open.

As one participant noted, healing work is not about demonstrating spiritual power. It is about service.

The facilitator becomes a guide rather than a guru.

A witness rather than an authority.

A companion rather than a controller.

Whether one believes in soul retrieval, angelic assistance, karmic contracts, or a Higher Self, the themes emerging from these conversations are remarkably universal.

People seek healing.

They seek understanding.

They seek relief from suffering.

Most importantly, they seek a return to wholeness.

Different traditions describe that journey in different ways. Some speak of psychology, some of spirituality, and some of energy. Yet all point toward the same essential process: integrating what has been fragmented, releasing what no longer serves, and reconnecting with a deeper sense of self.

Perhaps that is why discussions like these continue to resonate. Beneath the unusual terminology lies an enduring human question:

What would it take to become whole again?
